Emotional Freedom Technique, often called EFT or tapping, is sometimes misunderstood.
For some, it sounds too simple to be effective; for others, it’s confused with positive thinking or distraction.
In this post, I’d like to gently explain what EFT really is, how it works, and why so many people find it supportive during times of emotional or physical stress.
EFT combines gentle tapping on specific points of the body with focused awareness.
These tapping points are linked to the body’s energy system and also interact with the nervous system.
Rather than pushing feelings away, EFT allows the body to feel safer while emotions are acknowledged.
This sense of safety is often what allows intensity to soften naturally.
One common misconception is that EFT involves telling yourself everything is fine when it isn’t.
In reality, EFT begins by acknowledging what is present - anxiety, pain, fear, frustration, or overwhelm.
By naming the experience while tapping, the nervous system receives the message that it is safe to release its grip.
Many people describe feeling calmer, clearer, or more grounded — sometimes surprisingly quickly.
You don’t need to know exactly why you feel the way you do for EFT to be effective.
The body often holds emotional responses long after the conscious mind has moved on.
EFT works gently with these stored responses, helping the system settle without needing to relive or analyse experiences in detail.
This makes it suitable for people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted.
Because the nervous system and body are closely linked, emotional stress can sometimes show up physically — through tension, fatigue, digestive discomfort, or disrupted sleep.
EFT does not replace medical care, but it can support the body by reducing stress responses that may be contributing to discomfort.
Many people use EFT alongside other treatments as part of a holistic approach to wellbeing.
EFT isn’t about fixing yourself — because you are not broken.
It’s about creating enough internal safety for your system to let go of what it no longer needs to hold.
If you’re curious about whether EFT could support you, you’re very welcome to reach out and explore it gently, at your own pace.

There are moments when life feels loud, fast, and emotionally heavy — when your thoughts won’t slow down and your body feels permanently on edge.
If this sounds familiar, please know there is nothing wrong with you. Your nervous system may simply be asking for support.
In this post, I’d like to gently explore why overwhelm happens and how small, compassionate steps can help you return to a sense of calm.
Overwhelm isn’t just “too many thoughts”.
It’s often the body staying in a constant state of alert — what we commonly call fight, flight or freeze.
You might notice:
Tight shoulders or jaw
Shallow breathing
A racing mind
Fatigue alongside restlessness
When the nervous system doesn’t feel safe enough to settle, calm can feel out of reach — even when life looks “fine” on the outside.
Many people try to think their way out of overwhelm.
But true calm doesn’t come from forcing relaxation — it comes from creating a feeling of safety within the body.
This is where gentle approaches such as Reiki, EFT and Hypnotherapy can be deeply supportive.
They work by calming the nervous system first, allowing the mind to follow naturally.
Even small moments of safety — slowing the breath, softening the shoulders, pausing without judgement — can begin to shift how you feel.
If it feels right, take a moment to pause.
Place one hand on your chest
Take a slow breath in through your nose
Exhale gently through the mouth
As you breathe, silently remind yourself:
“In this moment, I am safe.”
There is no need to change anything else — just notice.
Calm isn’t a permanent state, and it isn’t a personal failing when it slips away.
It’s something we return to again and again, especially during times of change, stress, health challenges or emotional exhaustion.
Support doesn’t mean weakness — it means listening to what your system is asking for and responding with kindness.
If this resonates and you’re curious about experiencing Reiki, EFT or Hypnotherapy for yourself, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
You don’t have to navigate it alone. Supportive therapies can help you feel steadier, clearer, and more at ease — at your own pace.
Sessions are tailored to you and offered in a calm, respectful space, with no pressure or expectation.
Sometimes, the first step is simply allowing yourself to pause.
